Frequently asked questions

My practice is dedicated primarily to prosthetics, dental aesthetics, and implant-prosthetic therapy, that is, rebuilding teeth with crowns, veneers, bridges, and implant-supported restorations. Alongside these, I also carry out restorative and general dentistry: aesthetic fillings, root canal treatments, and preventive care. In essence, I look after both the functional side (so that you can chew properly and without discomfort) and the aesthetic side, for a balanced, natural smile. Every case begins with a consultation and a treatment plan tailored to your situation.

Instead of conventional impressions, I use 3D intraoral scanning: a small camera passes over the dental arches and creates a precise digital model, which is more comfortable for you. For aesthetic cases, the shape and shade of the future restoration are planned digitally, then discussed and agreed with you, based on photographs and the scan, before treatment begins. The digital simulation is there to guide us: it shows the direction we are taking, but the final result depends on your own anatomy, on the space available, and on how the gum settles after treatment. The restorations themselves are designed and milled with CAD/CAM technology, which means a more precise fit and stages that are easier to anticipate.

I work predominantly with metal-free, all-ceramic materials: zirconia (strong and well suited to high-load areas and to bridges) and E-max pressed ceramic, highly aesthetic and indicated for veneers and front teeth. The absence of metal means a more natural appearance, with no grey margins at the gumline, and good biocompatibility. I choose the material according to the position of the tooth, the chewing load, and your aesthetic expectations. There is no single solution that suits every case.

When one, several or all of the teeth are missing, implants can support a fixed restoration (crowns, bridges or a full arch) anchored in bone rather than resting on the gum. The stages are, in general: the assessment (including a 3D CBCT scan), placement of the implants, healing (the bone integrates with the implant), and then the final prosthetic restoration. The number of implants and the type of restoration we decide together, after the assessment; before each stage I show you what I can see and answer your questions. The aim is a stable, comfortable solution, close to the feel of natural teeth; the outcome, though, depends on the quantity and quality of the bone, on the health of the gum and on day-to-day hygiene. Afterwards the restoration needs careful hygiene and regular check-ups: the tissue around an implant can become inflamed, and in the early stages that rarely hurts.

The first visit is, above all, a conversation. I want to understand what is troubling you, what you would like to change, and what your dental history is. This is followed by a clinical examination and, if needed, an X-ray (panoramic or 3D CBCT) for a complete picture. Imaging is not carried out routinely, for every patient: I recommend it only where it brings information that changes the diagnosis or the treatment plan, and if you have recent radiographs we can use those. Based on this information, we decide together on the direction of treatment and, in most cases, you also receive an indicative plan at that same visit, with stages and costs. I never begin any irreversible procedure before you understand and agree to the plan.

It depends greatly on the case. An aesthetic treatment (a few veneers or crowns) can usually be completed in a handful of appointments, over the course of 2-4 weeks. For implant treatments the timeframe is longer, because the bone needs time to integrate with the implant: usually between 2 and 6 months, depending on the situation and on any bone-augmentation procedures. If decay, the gums, or an infection need treating before the restoration itself, those stages add to the timeline. At the end of the consultation I give you an estimated timeline, so that you know what to expect.

Fear of dental treatment is very common, and I take it seriously. I work at a calm pace, explain each step before I take it, and make sure the anaesthetic is fully effective before starting. Digital technology helps too: scanning instead of conventional impressions, and more precise procedures, generally make the experience easier. You can ask me to stop at any time. Local anaesthesia blocks pain, but not the sensation of pressure or vibration; if you do feel pain during a procedure, tell me there and then, because the anaesthetic can be topped up. For many patients, a good start is simply a first visit with no procedures at all: just a conversation.

The price depends on what you need, which is why I only determine it after the consultation and the imaging assessment: a filling, a crown and an implant-supported restoration involve very different stages, and every patient's situation is different. Indicative figures for each treatment are published on the Pricing page of this site, where you can consult them at any time; they are confirmed at the practice, after an examination. At the end of the consultation you receive a written treatment plan, with the stages and the costs that apply to your case, so that there are no surprises along the way. If you would like an estimate for your own situation, you can write to us through the appointment form or through the contact channels shown on the site.

Longevity depends on several factors (daily hygiene, habits such as teeth grinding, and regular check-ups), so it would not be fair to promise the same result for everyone. In general, however, modern all-ceramic restorations, made correctly and well cared for, can function for many years. I use certified materials accompanied by the manufacturer's documentation, and your statutory rights in respect of the work carried out apply as provided by law. A restoration is most often lost not because the ceramic gives way, but because of decay appearing at the border with the gum, or a fracture of the tooth beneath it. That is why, over time, what matters is daily hygiene, cleaning the spaces between the teeth, and regular check-ups, with a night guard added if you grind your teeth.

The care is simple but it has to be consistent: brushing for at least two minutes, twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste; cleaning between the teeth with floss or interdental brushes; and professional hygiene cleaning, usually every 6 months. On ceramic, use non-abrasive pastes without 'whitening' particles, which can dull the surface; ceramic does not lighten when whitened, so we do the whitening before the shade is chosen. With implant work, regular check-ups are essential: I check the gum and the bone around the implant. Clean daily right at the border with the gum, with interdental brushes or special floss; and if you grind your teeth at night, I can recommend a night guard. Come back without waiting for your scheduled check-up if the restoration feels 'too high' when you bite, if it moves, if a sensitivity appears that does not settle, or if the gum bleeds or swells; and do ask me at any time.
